Greetings from El Segundo, California!
We have all arrived safely to the Los
Angeles area. Flights went well. The majority of the team
flew from Des Moines to Denver and then to LAX.
After arriving at the airport and
claiming are ‘huge pile’ of luggage, we were a stream of red
sweatshirts lugging our suitcases along with the extra
suitcases of mission items to catch the Enterprise shuttle.
We were surprised that we were able to catch one within a
few minutes. Everything went smoothly. Some years it is
quite an experience to get our team along with all the
luggage on the shuttle to the Enterprise location.
Checked out four minivans, piled into
the vans and with two ways and maps in hand, we experienced
driving in LA. Most of us Iowans already agree that we like
Iowa traffic better. We checked into the Residence Inn in
El Segundo and settled in for 15 minutes before heading to
the famous Ralph’s Grocery to get our weekly supply of
snacks and lunches.
At 5:00, we unloaded, sorted and
counted all the items donated for missions. It is an
amazing ‘pile’. I am so impressed by the generosity of
God’s people. David Dunson was planning to come to the
hotel with 150 backpacks that we purchased from him. (He
was able to purchase them at wholesale) He called to say
that he was on his way to the hotel when he hit a pothole
and nearly lost his wheel. He had to call AAA and plans to
come tomorrow. We saw some serious potholes on the drive to
the hotel.
We ended our day by reviewing the
details for tomorrow, singing praises to God and discussing
how we can be a witness tomorrow. Everyone is equipped with
witness bracelets, ablaze bracelets and ablaze pins to share
with people who they visit with tomorrow.
Thank you for your prayers and I ask
that you continue to pray for our team, Ellie Menz |
