From the IDW Personal Missions Committee
The average work week for a protestant pastor in the
United States is 50 hours. Because so many of these hours
are necessary to complete his primary tasks of sermon
preparation, worship planning, and visitation of the sick
and homebound, not to mention the many hours he spends with
people who are already Christians, he finds himself spending
only a limited number of hours in contact with unbelievers.
With the United States now being the world’s third-largest
mission field, the task of bringing the message of Jesus to
the non-Christians of America would be impossible if pastors
were the only Christians engaged in evangelism. If you are a
pastor, in what ways can you spend more hours in contact
with unbelievers? If you are not a pastor, how many hours do
you have contact with non-Christians during a typical week,
and how could you use these hours to communicate the message
of Jesus to those you encounter?
