Personal Mission in the Epiphany Season
95% of people who become Christians are influenced by a Christian with whom they had a previously existing relationship. Do you have friends, family, co-workers, or neighbors? Are they Christians? All of them? In the parable of the dishonest manager (Luke 16), Jesus instructs His followers to make use of their earthly blessings for the purpose of bringing salvation to unbelievers. One of the blessings God has given us is our relationships with other people. We are frequently reminded that we cannot take our possessions with us when our earthly life is ended, but there is one thing that can go with us into eternal life—other people—and 19 times out of 20, Jesus chooses to take His message to the people you know through Christians like you.

Mission Invitations for Children and Youth
“Amigos en Cristo” (friends in Christ) is the focus of the Sunday school, Midweek, Lutheran School mission project. Children’s ministry groups are invited to be partners in this project during this school year. Invite the children to bring Jesus as the Friend of our Hispanic friends and neighbors. Information is included in this “Monthly.”

Outreach Resources
The Oswald Hoffman Institute for Christian Outreach has released a four DVD set on Missional Leadership. The set includes presentations by Rev. Dr. Robert Newton and Rev. Jerry Kosberg. These dynamic leaders walk viewers through knowing and sharing the mission of God and the formation of spiritual leadership within the lives of Christ’s disciples. More information is available from Mark Press at the Institute or by exploring https://www.csp.edu/form/ohsco/wml/dvd/

Leadership Training
Concordia University, St. Paul is the site for an “Elders Retreat” on January 29-30, 2010. The featured presenter is Rev. Matt Harrison. Cost is $35 per person.
