Organist Workshop
Thanks to the coordination of Rev. James Travis,
Concordia, Sioux City, and the partner at St. John, Storm
Lake another organists’ workshop is planned for Saturday,
August 22, 2009. The guest presenter is Dr. Jeffrey Blersch
from Concordia University, Seward. Information is included
in this publication and is also posted on the District Web
site. Organists of all ability levels (as well as pianists
and keyboardists) are invited.
Mission Challenge for Youth
The Youth Services Committee and the “Message
Sent” Mission event Committee challenge District youth and
youth groups to support Dr. Lo, missionary to Indonesia. The
goal is $5,000 support this year. We are blessed to have
already received over $1,100. Checks can be made payable to
“LCMS Missions” (note: Dr. Lo) and sent to Mission Central.
Nearly 180 youth and their adult leaders learned about
missions to Indonesia and into all the world at the recent
youth mission event.
“Joy in Ministry”
Praise God for the 150 partners who celebrated
ministry recruitment and ministry education funding at the
recent banquet. Gifts supporting our District students
preparing for full-time ministry can be sent to “Joy in
Ministry” at Iowa District West. District gifts lesson the
sometimes substantial debt of ministry career students. Pray
for the Student Financial Aid Committee as they make
allocations for the 2009-2010 school year.
Continuing Education Workshop
Shepherd of the Valley, West Des Moines, will
host a continuing education workshop from Concordia
Seminary, St. Louis. The workshop will be held July 27-29.
Dr. Charles Arand, professor of systematic theology, is the
presenter. The workshop, titled “Together with All
Creatures,” offers credible frameworks for making sense of
the world which describe the interconnectedness of all
things and cultivate the values necessary for a sustainable
environmental ethic. The workshop will explore the meaning
of the Christian narrative of creation for proclaiming the
creedal Gospel as well as for understanding our place and
purpose on God’s Blue Planet. The cost for the workshop is
$125, and offers 1.5 CEUs. The workshop begins at 1:00 p.m.
on Monday, July 27 and concludes at noon on Wednesday, July
29. The registration deadline is July 6. For registration
information, contact the Office of Continuing Education and
Parish Services at Concordia Seminary at 314-505-7486 or ce@csl.edu. |
