Missionary Monroe Update
One of IDW’s missionaries to the deaf, Pat Monroe, was
involved in an accident with a semi last month. By God’s
grace Pat’s life was spared, but she did suffer a broken
pelvis and other broken bones in the hip and leg area, as
well as multiple bruises. Following a week’s stay in the
hospital, Pat is recovering at home. Please remember her in
your prayers and with cards. Her address is 128 N 40th
Street, Apt. A, Council Bluffs, IA 51501.
Mission Invitations for Children and Youth
“Amigos en Cristo” (friends in Christ) is the focus of
the Sunday school, Midweek, Lutheran School mission project.
Children’s ministry groups are invited to be partners in
this project during this school year. Invite the children to
bring Jesus as the Friend of our Hispanic friends and
neighbors. Information is included in this “Monthly.” Youth
groups are encouraged to tithe their national gathering or
District gathering fundraisers or in other ways support the
work of Dr. Lo and family in Indonesia. The goal is $5,000
for this year. Checks can be sent to the District Office or
to Mission Central.
Well done stewards!
As harvest time nears, we are reminded of the harvest of
blessings. Fall is a great time for stewardship education.
Consider “Consecrated Steward,” “Excel in the Grace of
Giving,” “First Fruits Giving Week” or other resources that
are recommended through the District Office. Iowa District
West has six trained Consecrated Steward consultants ready
to serve in any region of the District.
The Parish Paper
The District staff will continue to monitor the
content of “The Parish Paper.” Recognizing the growing
diversity in our communities, this month’s topic “Seven
Roads to a Multicultural Congregation” may be helpful to
many congregations.
Our organization’s purchase of a
subscription to The Parish Paper includes
-
Permission to provide copies to our
staff and to the congregations within our jurisdiction
in any of the following ways: Email, postal, newspaper,
newsletter, meetings, training events, and our Web site.
-
Permission for each congregation within
our jurisdiction to (a) photocopy or electronically
distribute for local use as many copies as it needs, (b)
post them on its Web site, and (c) quote sentences and
paragraphs.
Congregations within our organization’s
jurisdiction to which we distribute The Parish Paper
do NOT have permission (a) to delete the copyright notice,
(b) to re-write, paraphrase, or change the wording of
sentences and paragraphs, or (c) to give any third
party—other than our staff and constituents—permission to
photocopy or print (in any quantity, no matter how small,
whether for free distribution or for sale). |
